As I've said in previous posts my liner skills are not my greatest - they are actually quite shocking - so any product that claims to make my life easier is worth investigation.
After reading various reviews about how much easier gel liner was in comparison to pencil or liquid I decided to put it to the test.
So, without further a due, I introduce you to the Maybelline Gel Liner.
It comes in a little glass pot which looks very smart and a double ended brush - one side with a rounded brush and the other with a "smudging" brush.
I was unsure about what the texture would be like - I was expecting a hard gel that took a bit of working but the gel is actually really soft and easy to work with. A little like putty.
The brush is also a lot easier to work with and gets into the little places that other eye liners don't
I wanted to compare my current eyeliner that I have used for years - Rimmel Exaggerate Eye Liner - with the new gel liner.
The brush is relatively solid and has more movement at the tip so flicks and general lining are pretty easy. The line it produces is even but mistakes are very obvious.
I have taken a swatch of both liners below.
The left is the Rimmel Liquid Liner and the right is the Maybelline Gel Liner.
As you can see the Gel Liner is a lot smoother and creates a more exact line.
The liquid is darker but not as consistent of a line.
Final Thoughts
Although new things are sometimes scary, I think with a bit of practice the gel liner will replace the liquid in my make up bag. It creates looks a lot easier and is pretty much waterproof in comparison (I tried to wash these swatches off and it took some good rubbing to get the gel off!).
There is a slight difference in price with the liquid costing around £5 and the gel costing £7.99 - There is a Rimmel version of the gel which looks pretty identical and costs £6.99.
I will hopefully now be able to master the perfect flick!
What are everyone's opinions on these gel liners? How would you rate them?
